SeaWorld’s “Blue Horizons” Unveiled

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Behold, the unveiling of SeaWorld San Diego’s beautiful “Blue Horizons” set. Engineered and built by Entech Creative Industries, under the direction of the Sea World San Diego team including Stan Myer, Darlene Walter and Scott Helmstedter. Entech Creative Industries is proud to have engineered and built this masterpiece; including the stage show set pieces, the wave forms, the lift system and the bridges.

SeaWorld Blue Horizons set

“Blue Horizons”, a spectacular, innovative show unites sea and sky as it showcases majestic animals and spirited performers. The show features energetic bottlenose dolphins, magnificent pilot whales, a colorful array of exotic birds and amazing acrobatic performers. It is set in SeaWorld San Diego’s completely renovated Dolphin Stadium.

The Entech team developed a number of innovative techniques in constructing the set work which has significant performance demands upon it including the special needs of a marine environment.  Notably is the fabrication of the translucent wave forms. Using a translucent FRP material, Entech developed a special stiffening system for the panels that permitted the panels to be fabricated much more quickly and efficiently employing the use of CNC Waterjet pattern cutting.

“Only SeaWorld could create such a spectacular concept, a type of show that can be seen nowhere else in the world,” said the nationally acclaimed set designer, Stanley Meyer, responsible for the design of the “Blue Horizons” set.   “It sets a completely new benchmark for awe-inspiring entertainment.” Meyer, best known for his work designing the Broadway musical ”Beauty and the Beast,” created the set for SeaWorld Orlando’s “Blue Horizons,” which has been a hit with audiences there since 2005.

Using elements of the sea and sky — and a young girl’s vivid imagination — as his inspiration, Meyer designed a whimsical, yet dramatic, atmosphere with an immense rising sun, hundreds of iridescent bubbles, and an elaborate, 40-foot-high framework which envelopes the pool and balances divers and aerialists as they plunge from bungees and soar on “cloud swings.” While these characters sway through the sky and dive off the set, the true stars of the show grace the waters below.

Entech is honored to have been a valuable part of the dream team in bringing this imagination to life so that people can enjoy it every day.

Congratulations to Liberty Science Center!

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Entech would like to congratulate our client, Liberty Science Center on winning a Thea Award for their Skyscraper! Exhibition. Given by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), the Thea is a prestigious industry award that celebrates excellence in creating compelling themed entertainment and guest experiences.

The largest exhibition on the subject in the world, Skyscraper! was designed to immerse guests in the science and technology involved in planning, designing and construction tall buildings, and their impact on our lives.

We are proud to have played a part in the creation of the winning exhibition. Entech fabricated several major components for Liberty Science Center, including a small-scale Tower Crane that visitors can operate using customized controls that allow them to move metallic objects in an enclosed area at the Construction Site, and a small-scale Earth Excavator that visitors can use to move stones from one pile to another, experimenting with the complexity of these machines and the power of their jaws. Another exciting part of our work on the exhibition was the 20-foot long Wind Tunnel, which uses jet-powered hurricane force winds to test a building design. Designed to demonstrate how buildings behave in high winds, visitors can change the wind speed, alter building models and find out what happens when hurricanes blow.

Entech’s GreenHouse Wrapup

Monday, November 16th, 2009

On November 5, 2009, Entech Creative opened its doors for a GreenHouse open house where technological and environmental initiatives were brought together for a meet and greet social event. This open house, the second Entech has hosted this year, demonstrated our commitment to incorporating more green practices in our business, specifically our IMPACT (I Made Planet Affecting Choices Today) initiatives.

Guests toured Entech’s facilities and interacted with a lifelike talking Actroid courtesy of Entech’s partner Kokoro Company Ltd., website: http://kokoro-dreams.co.jp a company of Sanrio Group. Presentations were given by area businesses and organizations, many of whom have an environmental focus.

The evening was rounded out with great food and drinks, including sushi handmade at the event by Eiji Ogiyama, Manager of Robot Technology for Kokoro.

We believe our GreenHouse event was a great success, and we’d like to thank our guests, partners and speakers who helped make it happen.

Entech Creative Master Carpenter, Billy Rae

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Entech Carpenter Billy Rae

Billy Rae, someone relatively new to Entech Creative, has undoubtedly made a significant impact on how things work around here in the past year. Having worked in interior boating for 20+ years and assisting over 450+ companies, Billy is certainly a one-man carpentry force to be reckoned with.

Organization, organization, organization. The mantra Billy lives by. It’s common to see other employees referring to Billy for advice in just this matter. From working on the Ford Tower to Morocco, it’s not hard to see that his ideologies have worked for him nicely. It’s a bit entertaining to watch Billy always return tools to the exact place it belonged before moving along, but you have to admire that kind of meticulousness. “Everything has its place,” chants Billy.

His favorite job just happened to be involving the Ford Tower construction. Now, at first glance, Billy may not emanate the artsy type, but surprisingly enough, Billy thoroughly enjoyed working on the tower for just that reason. According to Billy, “the tower was not just another dull cookie cutter project, it involved a level of artistry that I rarely get a chance to work on; because of that, the project had more meaning to me.”

“Stay busy, and make sure you feel like you’ve accomplished something before you leave.” It’s hard not to admire someone that brings in this attitude day in and day out. If you’re working with Entech, you’re lucky enough to be working with Billy as well. Bravo, Billy.

Entech Creative Experiential Disruption for Sprite

Friday, August 21st, 2009

entech creative sprite cube pictureSometimes being square is a good thing. When CommonGround marketing needed to develop and execute two large scale disruptive experiential environments for a series of new product brand activations in New York and Chicago, they turned to Entech Creative.

entech creative sprite experiential mood boardFor this process, Entech first developed a series of mood boards for the event, playing off the demographic and target research for the new product launch. These mood boards led to further research of the concepting of the interior and exterior of the disruptive environment. Some initial structural designs included roofs pitched at odd angles and vibrant colors. Discussions and further development, however, led to the simple “CUBE” structure as the most striking and disruptive.

entech creative experiential sprite green spaceWhile our engineering team set to work figuring wind loads, assembly time, and packing requirements, our in house team of designers set about constructing a space that would incorporate all the elements that the customer wanted to include: Plasma TV’s, dj booth, sampling station, lounge chairs, and more. With a fully tricked out interior designed, sourced, and priced to budget, the big blow to the project came on the news that the budget had been cut significantly.

Within a few days, the entire campaign was redesigned to fit with the new budget, retaining the most important key elements; namley the striking shape and size as well and clean interior elements.

We’re proud of all of our projects, and pleased to present the Sprite Brand Activation cubes as an example of creative thinking, time sensitivity, value engineering, and ultimately delivering an experience mechanism to help achieve our customer’s goals.
